Cindy Pendleton

Cynthia Murrell Pendleton was born and raised in Berkley Michigan, suburb of Detroit. She graduated from Berkley High School with honors. With three scholarships under her arm, she entered Wayne State University in Detroit, majoring in Art Education. Cindy graduated, and, after teaching in the Detroit area for one year, she convinced her best friend to hop in a jeep and head for Alaska. They arrived in Anchorage in the fall of 1967. Cindy has resided in Anchorage since that time, raising two children, being active in her church, and after 17 years of teaching art, has recently retired from the Anchorage School District. When she wasn’t actively teaching art, she was a part of the Pendleton Productions as chief still photographer and art consultant, producing films about the great land.

Cindy has a small commercial art business, Pendleton Fine Arts. Her watercolors and limited edition prints are sold throughout the state of Alaska.

Watercolor is Cindy’s favorite medium; children are her favorite subjects. She says, “you will find that not all of the children I depict are the stereotypical beautiful image. Short, tall, freckled, bespectacled or plain, I find all children to be beautiful in their own ways. I hope that you find that my work reflects the love I have for Alaska and its people along with the joy I feel for having been blest to be an artist.”
